Things to Do

Let’s start your dining journey with Abe & Louie’s, a high-end steakhouse that has been lauded by Zagat and Wine Spectator. If you’re craving seafood, try Saltie Girl or Select Oyster Bar, and there’s also the area’s newest hotspot, Contessa, known for its incredible food and rooftop dining. Some of our other favorite places to eat include Italian eatery Sorellina, Mexican restaurant Citrus & Salt Boston, the prestigious steakhouse Grill 23, and the outdoor dining at Stephanie’s on Newbury

When shopping on Newbury Street or in the Copley Mall, you will find everything from small local specialties to the world’s hottest brand names like Burberry and Gucci. You can also browse the Prudential Center, an upscale shopping center with a welcoming atmosphere. Back Bay is also home to many specialty stores, from Faherty on Newbury Street to children’s boutique Mulberry Road.

Stop by the iconic Hatch Memorial Shell, which frequently hosts performances by the Boston Pops – the Fourth of July fireworks display at the Hatch Shell is truly magnificent. Be sure to also check out Community Boating, a sailing school where visitors of all levels can enjoy access to watersports and spend the day on the Charles River.

Back Bay is a historical treasure trove with architecture that dates back to the 16th century. Dig into the heart of Back Bay with a visit to the grand Trinity Church, renowned for its decorative stained-glass windows and vintage organ. If you’re looking for a quiet, relaxing place where you can read a book or get caught up on work, the Boston Public Library is another architectural masterpiece. With its Renaissance style, it’s a favorite destination for locals and tourists alike. Make sure to check out their website to book a tour to learn about its history and to discover author and artist showcase events. The famous Berklee College of Music is located nearby as well.

Moving into the 21st century, the John Hancock Tower is another show-stopping structure that stands tall in the middle of the community. Another hot spot in Back Bay is the Charles River, where you’ll enjoy waterfront views, great food, and ample greenery. The Charles River Esplanade is a small strip of land that sits in the river where the Night Shift Owl's Nest resides — this beer garden hosts annual events throughout the year.
